Energy Efficiency Class

Energy Efficiency Class

Energy efficiency classes describe a building’s energy performance on a standardized scale and make buildings comparable and assessable in terms of their energy demand. For non-residential buildings in Germany, a harmonized A–G scale across the European Union (EU) will apply from January 1, 2027, following the amendment by the German Building Modernization Act (GModG). The basis is a standardized calculation of primary energy demand according to DIN/TS 18599 relative to a reference building. As a result, an energy performance certificate (EPC) based on an energy balance will be mandatory for all non-residential buildings and mixed-use properties. In addition, mandatory disclosures cover operational CO₂ emissions, life-cycle greenhouse gas emissions, and the building’s responsiveness to external signals.

Using aedifion solutions, owners and operators of non-residential portfolios can improve the energy efficiency class by 1–2 levels.
