Final energy demand refers to the amount of energy actually required by end users such as households, companies or other facilities for specific purposes such as heating, cooling or lighting. The concept is used in energy calculation and planning in various sectors. The final energy demand must be specified separately for the various energy sources in the energy demand certificate. It is measured in buildings at the system boundaries by meters and determines the energy efficiency class (A+ to H).
The calculation of the final energy requirement is crucial for assessing the energy efficiency of buildings. The lower the energy requirement per square meter, the more efficient a building is. The use of energy-efficient building materials and efficient insulation as well as intelligent energy management during operation have a positive effect on the final energy required.
