Dynamic Electricity Tariffs
Dynamic electricity tariffs are pricing models where the cost of electricity varies depending on supply and demand and at certain times. The " Law to Restart the Digitization of the Energy Transition," mandates that all electricity providers in Germany offer dynamic electricity tariffs starting in 2025. These tariffs are directly linked to the spot market price of the electricity exchange, providing consumers with an incentive to adjust their energy consumption flexibly according to the current electricity price, thereby saving costs. The prerequisite for signing up for a dynamic electricity tariff is the presence of an intelligent metering system, also known as a "smart meter". These systems automatically record and transmit the building's consumption data, ensuring that the dynamic tariff can be accurately billed at all times.
In the context of demand side management (DSM), dynamic electricity tariffs provide an essential monetary incentive for the targeted control of energy consumption. With predictive control enabled by aedifion.dynamics, this potential can be fully leveraged. The intelligent solution dynamically adjusts a building’s electricity usage to current grid conditions and ensures that energy is only used when it is truly necessary based on weather conditions and space utilization – and when electricity prices are low.
