In the context of building operations, the term "plant" refers to various technical installations, encompassing both mechanical and electrical components. A plant integrates all locally connected units of automation software, sensors, and actuators. Its primary purpose is to ensure the proper functioning of a building or building complex. Different plants, such as heating plants or ventilation plants, are often interconnected to form an integrated building system. These are also referred to as building automation plants, energy plants, or building energy plants.
