A smart meter is an intelligent metering system that provides detailed real-time data on energy consumption and generation within a building. It consists of a certified digital electricity meter (modern metering device) and a communication unit known as the "smart meter gateway," which facilitates communication between electricity consumers and producers with the metering point operator, grid operators, and energy suppliers. These stakeholders use the data, for example, to transparently bill electricity consumption, initiate grid-stabilizing measures, or optimize their procurement, generation, and sales forecasts. To advance the digitalization of energy supply in Germany, metering point operators are legally required to gradually equip their connected consumption points with smart meters according to a specified rollout plan by 2030.
With our Optimization Bundle, we take on holistic operational optimization based on smart meter data and other building information. Together with our partner network, we support the development of tailored metering concepts, bring the smart meter data to the cloud, and comprehensively increase energy efficiency through targeted recommendations and autonomous, predictive control.
