BACnet

BACnet

BACnet means "Building Automation and Control Network". This is a communication protocol that is widely used in the field of building automation. It enables manufacturer-independent communication and data synchronization between different systems in buildings. The interoperability makes BACnet an open standard in building operation. The communication protocol was developed in 1995 under the auspices of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers. It has been documented in the international standard for building automation (ISO 16484-5:2017) since 2017. BACnet supports both wired and wireless networks and interoperable integration of new components or flexible expansion of existing systems. The use of BACnet enables building automation and building services to be managed and controlled more efficiently, which in turn plays an important role in improving energy efficiency and increasing comfort for users and operators.
