Heat pump

Heat pump

Heat pumps are considered to be very energy-efficient heating systems because they obtain a large part of the thermal energy from natural or renewable sources. They extract heat from the ambient air, groundwater or the ground, which can then be used to heat homes or generate hot water. Energy-efficient heating and cooling systems are now installed as standard in many new buildings. Heat pumps typically consist of a condenser, a compressor, an evaporator and an expansion valve. The way it works is very similar to that of the refrigerator. Heat energy is absorbed, compressed and released through a refrigerant circuit. Comparatively little electricity is required for the drive and the pump. The more electricity comes from renewable sources such as wind and solar power, the more climate-friendly the use of the heat pump. It can thus contribute significantly to reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions. The use of heat pumps can be controlled in advance, especially in heating systems of large building complexes, by using AI and the aedifion cloud platform. This gives managers and owners new opportunities to save costs and operate buildings in a climate-friendly way. Based on weather data and the thermal capacity of a building, heat pumps are used exactly when the price of electricity is cheap.
