All Electric Society

All Electric Society

The term "All Electric Society" describes the vision of a future society in which the entire energy demand - from households to industry and mobility - is fully met by electricity generated from renewable sources like solar, wind, or hydropower.

This is made possible, among other things, by demand side management, the intelligent use of energy storage systems, and sector coupling, which connects all relevant sectors such as electricity, heating, and mobility. Electricity will be used not only for traditional applications like lighting or operating machines but also for heating buildings (e.g., with heat pumps) and powering electric vehicles. Excess renewable electricity can be converted into other energy sources, such as hydrogen (Power-to-Gas) or synthetic fuels (Power-to-Liquid), through Power-to-X technology. This flexibility in the power grid allows for the optimal use and storage of renewable energy.

Buildings, when digitally linked with other consumption sectors, have the potential to significantly improve the system’s energy efficiency, contribute positively to grid stability, and reduce their own energy costs. Through cloud platforms, different sectors and their hardware are connected and communicate seamlessly. Standardized communication protocols and open interfaces enable smooth information exchange. This transformation offers significant opportunities for both private households and commercial buildings in terms of sustainability and cost-efficiency.
